We are over the moon to unveil the artistic journey of one of our esteemed Ritual artists, the incredibly talented Carolina Borquez, the creative soul behind @ancestralworkshop.
Hailing from the picturesque terrains of Chile, Carolina has intricately woven her South American roots with the Polynesian influences of New Zealand, crafting mesmerizing wood mosaics that are as evocative as they are visually stunning. Inspired by the rich textiles of the Indigenous Chilean people, the “Mapuches”, every piece curated by Carolina is a passionate ode to the aesthetic elegance and cultural profundity of her ancestry.
In her esteemed project titled “Ancestral,” recycled wood is not just a material but a canvas where history, culture, and artistry converge. Each piece is a symphony of colors, textures, and patterns, echoing the indigenous artistry and ancestral stories of the Mapuches, augmented by the distinct influences of Polynesian art. It’s a dance of civilizations, a narrative of roots that spread across continents, resonating the harmonious blend of traditions and histories.
My work has been influenced by textiles of Indigenous Chilean people “Mapuches”, which I try to simulate undertaking woodwork as part of my project titled Ancestral ,using recycled wood, connecting my south american roots with polynesian influences of this land .This project is a call to look at ourselves and recognize our ancestors.
