PEDRO ILGENFRITZ: Journey of masks from ritual to performance

$0.00

This presentation explores the intricate connection between ritual and performance in the use of theatre masks, tracing their presence across diverse historical periods and cultures. Beginning with ancient rituals, it examines the evolution of masks through Greek and Roman theatre, Commedia dell’Arte, Eastern theatre traditions, and the revival of masks in the twentieth century. The presentation highlights both the mystical allure and the technical elements of theatre masks in contemporary practice, with a particular focus on their role in actor training and how they engage the physicality of the actor’s body.

Description

Pedro Ilgenfritz is a Brazilian actor, theatre director, teacher and researcher with a career over 20 years dedicated to the investigation of acting training methodologies, comedy, street theatre, masks and dramaturgy. His theatre has been performed in Brazil, Uruguay, Australia and New Zealand.

I am a dedicated theatre artist driven by the commitment to search for the possibilities that play at the intersection of theatre tradition and innovation; my ultimate goal as a theatre director is to find poetic solutions for human experience and to nurture an uncompromising attitude towards arts practice and life. My creative work is focused on both the creation of original theatre work through collective creation and text-based theatre. I am aware that as a teacher I am able to not just give back to the theatre industry all I was given over the years, but to affect and influence the students’ perception of the world.
