In the build-up to the enchanting Ritual Artistic Encounters, we are ecstatic to introduce another Art exhibition featured artist gracing our event, the profound and expressive Shenay from South Africa.
Shenay, an artist of mixed technique, weaves a narrative that’s “seriously fun” yet steeped in the profound depths of environmental sciences, pre-historical reminiscences, and socio-anthropological richness. Representing the Khoikhoi of the Cape-Khoi people, Shenay embodies the voice of an indigenous heritage, the echoes of which are profound and resonating.
My creative practice has the tendency to be seriously fun, and lightly based on environmental sciences; accompanied by a pre-historical and socio -anthropological wholesomeness.

Her collection titled ‘Kruie’ (herbs) is not just art but a connection, an echo of the native plants intrinsic to the South African soil, celebrated and revered as medicine by the Khoikhoi and San. These hand-drawn masterpieces on Eco-dyed fabric are windows to a distant memory, portals to a near-forgotten time where the soul danced freely to the harmonious tunes of nature and ancestry.
Each piece is a narrative, unveiling the mystical world of six native plants, their aesthetic allure enriched by the contrasting backgrounds influencing a ‘still’ motion of feeling whole – an embrace of ancestry, a dance of nature, a celebration of cultural richness.
